These mandrels are based off a pen mandrel, and are designed to be used to turn: wood, acrylic, cork or EVA. Each has a threaded section with 2 nuts to lock the piece on the mandrel. There is a 60 degree conical hole machined to fit in a live center. There are 2 spacers, and a lock collar. Standard length is 18″, but they can be ordered in shorter lengths, just let me know.
1/4″ (longest length 12″): $44 3/8″: $49 7/16″: $51 1/2″: $55 5/8″: $60 3/4″: $70 7/8″ $85
The EVA Turning Mandrels are the preferred choice for EVA turning and sanding. They are 18″ long and have a 60 degree conical hole machined in one side. The 3/8″ & 1/2″ mandrels are straight, the 5/8″ and 3/4″ have a machined shoulder on one end to allow them to fit in a 1/2″ jacobs drill chuck (the most common chuck used for holding mandrels).
3/8″ $15 1/2″ $20 5/8″ $30 3/4″ $35 7/8″ $40
*Note of caution – the tailstock lock handle MUST be tightened anytime you are turning a mandrel. The centrifugal force and vibration caused by turning/sanding WILL cause an unlocked tailstock to back off and the mandrel will come off the live center, and will cause serious injury. many builders have purchased a 1/2″ live center from PennStateIndustries as an added measure of safety. To use this on the 5/8″ and 3/4″ mandrel, you will need to purchase a 3/4″ jacobs chuck, or use 5/8″ and 3/4″ collet chucks. The 3 jaw chucks (micro and standard) are not recommended for holding mandrels.
